| In the Hawaiian language, Waimanalo means "potable water"; it is so named for the many brackish ponds in the area that were used for irrigation. The 2000 census registered 3,664 people and 849 households. Waimanalo is the home of Sea Life Park, a marine biology and sealife attraction located near Makapu'u Beach.
